Abstract: This study examines the role of characterization and conflict in Okey Ndibe’s Foreign Gods, Inc. The study is in five chapters, and they are introduction, literature review, characterization, conflict, and conclusion. Sociology of literature is the adopted theoretical framework, and the approach shows the interrelationship between characterization and conflict in the novel. Given the content and context of the novel, the adopted literary theory helps the reader to situate the themes of migration, identity clash, corruption, religious conflict and alienation.
About the Author, Emetu, Chinwekele Chinwendu
Passionate about literature, Chinwekele enjoys reading and analyzing classical works and poetry. Her first academic publication, Characterization and Conflicts in Okey Ndibe’s Foreign gods, Inc., reflects her interest in exploring themes of characterization and conflict. She aspires to publish further analyses of classical and contemporary literature in the future.
Beyond her professional and academic pursuits, Chinwekele is the host of Women Homestead, a podcast that addresses societal challenges affecting women, attracting listeners from around the globe. She is also an active volunteer with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative and enjoys playing volleyball in her leisure time.
